Revised Edition of Popular Book
Introduces Children to the World of Blessings

The URJ PRESS is proud to release The God Around Us-A Child's Garden of Prayer Revised Edition, with text by Mira Pollak Brichto and illustrations by Selina Alko.

"For more than a generation, the original edition of The God Around Us has been used in homes and synagogues to introduce pre-schoolers, kindergartners, and young readers to the concept that the world is full of blessings every day," said Kenneth Gesser, publisher of the URJ PRESS. "This updated edition is presented with all new, vibrant illustrations as well as gender-neutral English, and I'm sure it will teach a whole new generation of Jewish children about God's place in our lives."

The book is filled with traditional blessings presented in Hebrew, gender-neutral English, and transliterated Hebrew, along with a poem, beginning with this rhyme and berachah:

A mountain high, a falling star,
These things to me a wonder are.
The lightning sky, the desert sand,
Let's praise the work of God's own hand.

Praised are You, Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe, who performs the work of creation.

There are also blessings on hearing good and bad news, on seeing the ocean and a rainbow, hearing thunder, smelling flowers or herbs, encountering people of different races, eating fruits and vegetables grown in the ground, and observing a fruit tree's first blossoms. Parents can read it cover-to-cover to their children, or refer to individual blessings on special occasions. Either way, The God Around Us can be used all year round.

The URJ PRESS is part of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the central body of Reform Judaism in North America, uniting 1.5 million Reform Jews in more than 880 synagogues. UAHC services include camps, music and book publishing, outreach to unaffiliated and intermarried Jews, and educational programs.

The God Around Us is available in hard cover for $12.95. Items from the URJ PRESS can be ordered toll free at 1-888-489-UAHC or through the Web Site at http://URJPress.com
