Out of the Whirlwind From URJ PRESS
Preserves The Memory Of The Holocaust

The inhuman acts that occurred before and during the Holocaust cannot be forgotten. Taking measures to assure that the memories of the Holocaust are passed down to each generation and carried over into the next millennium, the URJ PRESS proudly releases Rabbi Albert H. Friedlander's revised and expanded edition of Out of the Whirlwind: A Reader of Holocaust Literature. Rabbi Albert H. Friedlander has updated his exceptional anthology of Holocaust literature to include over forty accounts that exemplify the broad range of Shoah experiences.

Elie Wiesel, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and also a contributor to the anthology claims that, "Friedlander's powerful new edition of Out of the Whirlwind will, even more than the original one, inspire readers young and old to absorb memories of agony, silence, and resistance. It must find its place in every library, in every home, in every heart."

The anthology goes beyond the historical numbers and facts of the Holocaust and touches on the personal stories of the Holocaust victims. It is also an essential learning text in studying the Holocaust. Some of the noted Holocaust commentators who contributed to Out of the Whirlwind, include Anne Frank, Leo Baeck, and Abraham J. Heschel. The new edition also includes contributions from prominent sources such as Aharon Appelfeld, Ida Fink, Lucy S. Dawidowicz, Primo Levi, Daniel Jonah Goldhagen, Theo Richmond, Margarete Buber-Neuman, Art Spiegelman, Deborah Eisenberg, and Bernhard Schlink.

Rabbi Albert H. Friedlander serves as the dean of Leo Baeck College in London and is rabbi emeritus, Westminster Synagogue, London. He is also the author of several books on Holocaust literature, including Riders Toward the Dawn: From Holocaust to Hope; Leo Baeck: Teacher of Theresienstadt; and Thread of Gold: Journeys towards Reconciliation.

The URJ PRESS is part of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the central body of Reform Judaism in North America, uniting 1.5 million Reform Jews in more than 880 synagogues. UAHC services include camps, music and book publishing, outreach to unaffiliated and intermarried Jews, and educational programs.

Out of the Whirlwind is a 600-page paperback that sells for $16.95. Items from the URJ PRESS can be ordered toll free at 1-888-489-UAHC or through the Web Site http://www.URJPress.com.
